Preventative Dentistry.

Preventive Dentistry Lakeridge Dental Centre

Preventive dentistry consists of taking proactive measures to safeguard your teeth, gums and mouth. At Lakeridge Dental Centre we believe in preventing dental problems before they arise, saving you from undergoing more invasive and costly treatments in the future.

Preventive dentistry is practicing good oral hygiene at home. Visiting your dentist and hygienist at least every six months and following through on dental treatment needed.

Preventive Dentistry includes:

•Regular dental exams (at least every 6 months )

•Regular Hygiene appointments (at least every 6 months or more frequently if your hygienist recommends)

•Dental X-rays

•Oral Hygiene instruction

•Sealants and fluoride treatments

What you can do at home:

Brush at least twice per day

Floss at least once per day

Rinse at least once per day

Consume a healthy diet

Avoiding sugary and acidic food and drink

Drink plenty of water

Don’t Smoke

Preventive dentistry will go a long way in helping to prevent dental problems later on. If you practice proper oral hygiene and visit your dentist and dental hygienist regularly then you can avoid or lessen the effects of these common dental issues:

– Cavities

– Gingivitis

– Enamel loss

– Periodontitis

Your dentist and hygienist at Lakeridge Dental Centre will help you take care of your oral health as well as detect and treat any issues that may occur. Your dentist will also work alongside specialists such as periodontists and orthodontists to provide you with the best treatment specific to your dental needs.

The benefits of preventive dentistry:

Economical – preventive dentistry is more cost-effective than restorative or emergency treatments.  One example; it’s much easier to fix a small cavity than to leave it untreated which may result in infection, root canal therapy, or losing the tooth.

Pain/Discomfort – Regular check-ups allow your dentist to detect issues before they cause discomfort, and early intervention minimizes distress and potential complications.

Gum Disease Prevention– Periodontal disease poses a common oral health challenge that can lead to tooth loss but also affects overall health. Regular check-ups and cleanings, will not only protect you from periodontal disease but also nurture gum health

Preserving your natural teeth – You want to keep your natural smile for as long as possible. Preventive care is geared towards protecting the condition of your natural teeth, thus reducing the need for tooth replacement alternatives. This is vital for maintaining proper oral function and aesthetic appearance

Overall Health – Poor oral health has been linked to several systemic health issues, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory infections and dementia. By choosing to practice preventive dentistry, you are actively contributing to your overall health. By investing time and effort in preventive measures, you can save yourself from pain, discomfort and costly treatments in the future.

At Lakeridge Dental Centre our main goal is always prevention when it comes to our patient’s oral health.  We believe in educating our patients on preventive measures to keep their oral health at its best.  We strive to maintain healthy smiles by detecting dental issues early and addressing them promptly before they become more serious and develop into more complex dental issues.
